The Elder Scrolls - Fate Core RPG
"Leveling up grants a bonus to your choice of Health, Magicka, or Stamina. Choosing Stamina also increases your carrying capacity."
― The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Your character possesses four basic resources which can be used to do extraordinary things: Luck, Magicka, Health, and Stamina. Each of these resources has a base value and a momentary state. The base value is a simple number that keeps track of how big the character’s capacity in the corresponding resource is. The current state is either a number of points—represented by playing tokens—or marked off stress boxes.
In order to track the current state of your Luck, Stamina, and Magicka it is easiest to use some sort of playing tokens with three different colors, best Green, Blue and another color (best not red)—poker chips, coins, or board game tokens. To track your Health, you can either mark the boxes on your character sheet, or use cards with numbers 1 to 4 on one side, to flip over when marking stress.
Your resources base values influence a small number of other gameplay features. Your Stamina base value, for example, determines how much you are able to carry around, without its weight becoming a hindrance to perform actions.
In some cases where you cannot really do anything to defend yourself, but have to rely on your body’s own capacities, you can do a roll and add one of the basic resource base values. For example, when you are being poisoned, roll a defend action against the poison’s rank and add your Stamina base value, or when someone tries to cast an Illusion Spell on you, they need to roll against your Magicka base value.
You can temporarily increase your resource base values by using potions, enchantments or spells. These modifications do not change your base value permanently, for that you need to invest in them during player advancement. At every Major Milestone, you get to spend one point to advance one of these resources values.
